Letter, 28 Aug. 1837, Beaufort, S.C., to Basil Manly, Charleston, S.C., questioning the wisdom of Manly's plans to leave the First Baptist Church (Charleston, S.C.) and his acceptance of a call in Alabama [where he later served as president of University of Alabama], "I tell you plainly it is not, & it cannot be the will of God that you should abandon this State when you enjoy an influence ... & go into a Land where you are but litte known, & into a station where your ministerial usefulness will be crippled forever," and mentioning a pamphlet that Fuller, Manly, and Riley were editing for publication.
