註釋This is the story of Mabel Fable who was an orphan and adopted by the Fable family. It traces her life from the time she was four to fifty-years-old. It tells of the unconditional love of her adoptive parents and brother. Our story starts in Detroit, Michigan and ends in the Los Angeles area. It chronicles her many fowled up romances. Gable Fable, her father, was employed by Ford Motor Car Company in the River Rouge Plant in Dearborn and moved to Whittier, California to escape the deterioration of the Detroit environs. Mable, the child has a happy youth and is always protected by her brother, Aesop aka Soppy who is two years older. Through her adult years she has many romantic encounters and disappointments. Once she leaves home she lives with her close friend, Heather, and Heather's aunt, Holly. Aunt Holly is the epitome of good advice that often goes unheeded by our heroine. Her convoluted romance with Homer Hogarth is a subtheme that reoccurs throughout the story.
