A Look at an Ancient Volcanic Environment in the Meductic Area, West-central New Brunswick
註釋This guide is for a field trip to visit a number of interesting sites within an Early Palaeozoic sequence of volcanic & sedimentary rocks in the Meductic area of west central New Brunswick. Features displayed in these rocks are examined in order to reconstruct the geological conditions that existed at that time. Distinctions between volcanic rock types ranging from basalt to rhyolite are described in terms of colour, hardness, mineral content, and texture. Stratigraphic successions and mode of deposition are demonstrated using criteria such as graded bedding, pillow structures, presence of fossils, and radiometric age determinations. The visits provide a picture of the nature of volcanic activity that took place in this area during the Early Ordovician.
