Stories from the Road
註釋This booklet was written as a practical resource for development workers and addresses some of the common challenges, dilemmas and conundrums that they face in working with communities. It's aim is to increase sense making of common dilemmas, to better understand what is happening in a given situation and enable discussions with others in ways that also makes sense to them. Whether a development initiative is about digging wells in Senegal or working with disaffected youth in New York, it doesn't matter how good a development idea is, its success will depend on all the people involved. It will depend on how they make sense of what is happening, what should they do and what conversations they have with others. Fables have been used for thousands of years to illuminate our human dilemmas. They are effective because they can convey complex issues in simple terms that can be easily passed on. Fables are again used here with a specific community development lense to shed light on some of the more elusive issues that impact on the effectiveness of development professionals work in the field. Each of the ten fables is illustrated with original art and is matched with a practical reflection.
