The GRAFTONS(annotated)
註釋'The Graftons' is the sequel to Archibald Marshall's previous novel, 'Abington Abbey'. The book, featuring life and its occupants in rural Dartmoor, at a sprawling property which features a church, a large property named Abington Abbey, and several gardens and smaller buildings on the property. The story picks up not long after the other novel began. War is in full swing, which tinges every aspect of the locals' lives. The Rector of Surley is on his deathbed, surrounded by his loved ones. His time is ending, soon. And then, the old man is dead. The Grafton family meets up with the neighbours to discuss the Rector's death, and to discuss matters of the local church. And afterwards, Caroline and Bradby begin spending some quality time walking and discussing important matters. Life at Abington Abbey continues on much as it had been the past while, full of its ups and downs, as George, his daughters, and Young George continue to work and go to school, and form new relationships. For the daughters, marriage is on the horizon. It is a lovely continuation of Marshall's previous work, showing the character's strong relationships, and emotional growth as they grapple with their various obstacles.
