註釋Duncan De Forbes appears to be the earliest known ancestor of the Forbes family of Forbes, Scotland. He received a charter for lands in Forbes in 1272. Descendants seperated into several distinct branches including Forbes of Forbesfield, the Lords Forbes (including the branch of Baronets of Monymusk), and the Lords of Pitsligo.
