Past and present processing techniques for the production of uranium tetrafluoride by the dryway process are reviewed. The moving-bed process, used in Canada and France, has an economic advantage over the process used in the USA, where a fluidized- bed reactor is used for reduction and a stirred-bed reactor for hydrofluorination.
