La conversió dels jueus de Castelló d'Empúries
註釋Constant pressure on the part of the Catholic Church and Christian society in 14th-15th century Spain, as well as the threat of "convert or die", resulted in the conversion of all of the Jews of Castelló d'Empúries (Catalonia). An economic crisis in the community in 1370, popular hostility, the sermons of Vicente Ferrer (beginning in 1411), the disputation of Tortosa (1413-14), and Pope Benedict XIII's encyclical "Etsi doctoris gentium" (1415) reinforcing all the previous prohibitions against Jews, all led to the beginning of the Jews' conversion. The culmination was a mass conversion on 18 February 1417, marking the end of the Jewish presence in the town. Includes a list of all of the converts (pp. 235-238).
