Qualitative Research in Social Work
註釋The value of qualitative methods within social work research has often been debated, but there is evidence that they have proven useful. In this entry, the methodological characteristics of qualitative research methods in the social work field are outlined. Their historical development and international variants are sketched. The professional, occupational, and disciplinary nature and purposes of the field have influenced in different ways the portfolio of qualitative methods, but there are core elements of continuity with qualitative research more widely. The main strengths and limitations of qualitative research in the field are set out, with an outline of the range of qualitative methods that have played a significant and positive role in the field, and an indication of the main gaps.
