註釋Presents an alphabetical listing of 520 Jewish residents of Berlin as registered in the last telephone directory of the city published in 1941, accompanied by additional information on the person's date of birth, place of study, profession, and fate in the Shoah. Includes some photographs and facsimiles of documents. Notes that the 1940 telephone directory listed 5,000 Jews, but in July of that year the Jews were excluded from telephone services, with the exception of medical doctors and a few other professions; consequently, 363 of the entries in the 1941 directory are doctors and 53 are lawyers. Pp. 135-143 contain short biographies of four prominent Berlin residents: Leo Baeck, Alexander Berl Coper, Moritz Henschel, and Fritz Hirschfeld. Pp. 144-150 relate to police investigations of Jews who failed to update the functionaries of the telephone directory company about adding Sara and Israel to their names in the register. Until October 1941, 189 cases were brought to court; the judges' sentences were diverse, ranging from a fine to a few days in prison.
