The New Name Version of Reptiles of the World: A Life List Volume I
Welcome to THE NEW NAME VERSION OF REPTILES OF THE WORLD: A LIFE LIST, VOLUME I: ALL LIZARDS AND THE TUATARA. It is the first and most beautiful (unillustrated) listing in print of all species and subspecies of these creatures. Perhaps the most striking feature of this New Name Version of Reptiles of the World will be its NEW LEXICON OF PROPOSED ENGLISH NAMES. For the first time in reptiles, a comprehensive and systematic approach to common naming has been applied. Reptiles of the World, Volume I, is also the only book to the all the Earth's lizards (and the Tuatara) which marries the useful combination of ENGLISH COMMON NAMES (for subspecies, too), SCIENTIFIC NAMES and their AUTHORSHIP/DATE, and RANGE DESCRIPTIONS (i.e., where they live). Provided is an Introduction on How to Use this Book, Ethics and Conservation, Abbreviations, and the hobby of Herptiling. Many humorous footnotes and autobiographical snippets are sprinkled about this volume to keep things lively and to spark discussion. (Other features, such as Indexes, and several novel proposals will be found in the companion book, Volume II.) The student of these animals will be well served. It is shocking that this most basic combination of world-scale reptile data has taken so long to appear in print. Birds and mammals have been graced with their own full-data checklists. As this is a hobby oriented, Lifelist (not just a 'scientific checklist'), it has a 'box' (actually a 'lozenge shape') to MARK IN YOUR SIGHTINGS, and space to write in WHEN and WHERE YOU SAW AN ANIMAL, all in in a user-friendly format. Three pages of blank lines are provided at the close of the main entries for the reader to write in sightings of Introduced Reptiles seen in the wild. Though this approach gives specialists many of their 'bells and whistles', the focus of this effort is the nature-friendly public. Think of this work as a sort of 'People's Listing' of these fellow travelers on our planet. Nature Paperback 8 1⁄2 x 11" (white paper) 372 pages (plus cover).
