註釋This book is in esence a history of an Hispanic family, set strongly against the pertinent historiography of the so-called Spanish Borderlands, a product of substantial research into the author's genealogy and corresponding contemporaneous chronicles of the Borderlands. It traces the lineage of the Torres Gallardo stock from the ancient province of Nueva Viscaya in northern New Spain, initially settled in the 16th century, up to their settlement in El Paso, Texas, at the start of the 20th century. Along the way, key historical events are correlated to the activities of the family, all of which produce a picture of the long cultural heritage.
