註釋In The Imperial Revolution, Professor Winks maintains that both British and American historiographies would benefit from greater use of comparative methods of inquiry. He claims that a greater use by American scholars of European and especially British work done in the field of imperial studies, would have produced an American historiographical tradition which was less ideological. There may well be a resurgence of interest in imperial history as a new generation of scholars come into their own. Further, as Western nations, in particular the United States, are called upon to `set matters right' in Somalia, Bosnia, and elsewhere, as a result of the chaos arising from the end of the Cold War, many conclusions about the nature of imperialism, its relative benefits and evils, and the nature of power relationships between states will need to be re-examined. Under whatever name, Professor Winks claims that the field of imperial studies will almost certainly expand.
