註釋I never planned to write this comic fantasy. Most of my writing has been hard science fiction, with themes of love over death, but in the summer of 1995, people watching in a park - as many writers do - I decided to turn my feelings of hopelessness into a character that had all the luck I seemed to be missing, multiplied by several billion. Sometimes called a waster myself - another writer's normality from those valuing only 'normal' jobs - the character and the gods against him were born, in the literary rather than the biblical sense. Am sure some of the stylism can be blamed on overdoses of Monty Python, Asterix the Gaul and the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, but the whole thing proved such fun to write the first draft and sequel plan took only three months to complete. Life, romance, marriage and myriad rewrites later, it ended not with publication but with shelving. In 2016, divorce allowed a return to writing, which began with the AD 2045 series, also on Amazon, and led to stumbling across earlier works - so here we are. Perhaps some of the Wayster's luck is karmically coming back as, by a sheer fluke, I happen to have published it during the 2019 window for Amazon's writing competition.Why I chose to write under 'Sam Cooke' is another story in itself, which I'll share if the Wayster is lucky enough to be shortlisted.
