Examines the changes that have taken place in the role of women in South Australia from the first settlement to the present. Contains many illustrations, extensive notes, a bibliography and an index. The author, who teaches at a tertiary institution in Adelaide, published a related study entitled 'Nothing Seemed Impossible: Women's education and social change in South Australia 1875-1915' in 1985.
