Contingent Faculty and Freshman Retention Rates
註釋This study uses a unique data set from Texas to test whether the share of semester credit hours taught by contingent faculty affects freshman retention rates. The results from the pooled sample reveal large and significant negative effects of using contingent faculty instead of tenured faculty to teach courses. When including university fixed effects, the effects of contingent faculty are not statistically different from zero. Together these results suggest the use of contingent faculty affects where students' decide to attend college but do not affect students' retention rates.
