註釋Traditionally, when those involved with nonprofit organizations have thought about financial needs they have thought in terms of fundraising - annual campaigns, individual donation, foundation grants and government support. This has lead to the evolution of a sector driven by "the deal." This capital market is largely transactive and values performance based upon two questions: How much money did you raise and how much did you spend in pursuit of your mission? The focus is often less upon the creation of long-term value than on short-term performance. This mindset makes it difficult for both the managers of nonprofit corporations and those who support them to build organizations with significant capacity to execute a strategy toward what are often very complex goals.
