A sensitive GLC-ECD method which involves derivatization of sobrerol with pentafluoropropionic acid anhydride (PFAA) to form the electron capture sensitive diester was developed. Hydrated carvone, the major metabolite of sobrerol also undergoes derivatization with PFAA. But two derivatives were formed because of keto-enol tautomerism.
