First European Quality of Life Survey
註釋The rural landscape in Europe is undergoing enormous demographic, social and cultural change. Many rural areas are growing faster than urban areas, while others are experiencing a decline. One key phenomenon in recent times is the increasingly global penetration of local markets, which has bridged the gulf between the previous urban-rural divide. This report explores quality of life from an urban-rural perspective. It addresses the question as to whether people's subjective experience of quality of life differs significantly in rural and urban parts of Europe. The findings are based on a large-scale survey into quality of life which was carried out in 28 countries. It explores policy measures at both EU and national level which have been taken to tackle aspects such as deprivation, housing, employment and education in cities and regions. Its conclusions point to the future challenges necessary to bolster rural economies and foster urban regeneration.
