Bishop in the Dock
註釋Catholic Bishop James Liston delivered a speech on St Patrick's Day 1922 attempting to reassure his flock about recent events in Ireland. Consequently he was charged and tried for making a seditious utterance. This detailed study explores the background in Ireland and New Zealand, the involvement of central and local government, the media, the police and court system, and the effects on individuals, the church and society. Photographs and newspaper cartoons from the times are incorporated. Extensive endnotes, a bibliography and an index are given. Soft cover. This book won the 1995 Keith Sinclair History Prize.
