Volume 1 (1536-1851) covers the early music history of Argentina discussing music of Native peoples, music during the Spanish conquest, and throughout the colonial period. Volume 2 (1852-1900) begins with music of Buenos Aires in the second half of the 19th century, looking at opera and ballet. This volume also examines important Argentines who developed the musical culture of the country. Volume 3 (152-1900) begins with the teaching of music in 19th century Argentina and the creation of a music academy in Buenos Aires. This volume looks at the role of military bands and secular music.
