Modelling Asthma Epidemiology Using Geographic Information Systems
註釋A temporal analysis identifies asthma epidemic days, but augmentation with spatial analysis is conceptually unsatisfactory and not practical, given a sparse spatial distribution of cases in Perth. Alternatively, space-time interaction models acknowledge the concurrent operation of spatial and temporal processes, but computational demands are heavy, especially when Monte Carlo methods are required for significance testing. A GIS analysis tool is developed which implements Mantel's space-time regression, and evaluates its significance using an approximate randomization test. It is integrated with a desktop GIS in a way which is transparent to the user, and achieves acceptable execution times for a reasonably large number of points.
