註釋Artists have always struggled to represent the ephemeral phenomenon that is time, but since the beginning of the twentieth century it has become almost a fixation: in recent decades alone, consider On Kawara's series of dated one-day paintings, Janine Antoni's massive and gnawed-at hunks of chocolate and lard, Hiroshi Sugimoto's long-exposure photographs of movie theaters, or Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle's sped-up video of human motion in Mies van der Rohe's New National Gallery in Berlin. Tempo includes multimedia work by artists as diverse as Francis Alys, Matthew Barney, Vija Clemins, Douglas Gordon, Roni Horn, Guillermo Kuitca, Glenn Ligon, Gabriel Orozco, Paul Pfeiffer, Kim Sooja, Fatimah Tuggar, Andriana Varejao, Erwin Wurm and Andrea Zittel. It is published to accompany the inaugural exhibition at MoMA QNS, The Museum of Modern Art's temporary space in Queens, New York.
