註釋
Typescript draft (photocopy) of an undated memoir written by Herbert Feis at his home in York, Maine, between approximately 1969 and 1970. Topics include: Feis' thoughts about how his life as an American Jew shaped his personal world view and affected his career; his studies and social life at Harvard in the early 20th century, including time spent at Louis Brandeis' home and with his daughter Elizabeth; and observations on policies and personalities in U.S. foreign policy from 1931 through 1947. The narrative alternates between the past and the present. Stories about his boyhood and adult years are interwoven with descriptions of his house and surroundings in rural Maine, the history of the house and its previous owner, Charles Goodrich, and comments about contemporary politics. Three characters in Owen Wister's novel Philosophy Four: A Story of Harvard University (1903) and the types of men they represent are referenced throughout the memoir.
