This book contains a short history of emigration from the mid- and upper Rhein area and maps depicting the Rheinland area in the 19th century to help the family historian identify the status of regions at various times (e.g., a duchy, a French department, etc.). This in turn, aids in locating resources in the archives. The bulk of the book contains record summaries for villages (in alphabetical order). In some case, names of both immigrants and emigrants are listed.
