With their two young children, they emigrated to the United States to begin a new life, a Jewish life. The challenges they faced as a family in search of home in this new country rocked them to the core. As they struggled to start over, they discovered alarming indications of disunity and disconnection among American Jews, along with warning signs of anti-Semitism not unlike those they had seen in Germany. But drawing on their inner strength, they found purpose and faith as they encouraged others to make Judaism more central to their lives and to be ever-vigilant to the specter of anti-Semitism. This memoir is their personal journey through immense challenges to rediscover the importance of being Jewish. It is a story of hope and a call to action to reconnect with one's Jewish identity.
