註釋The Hudson Valley Dutch have never received the attention due them in American history. There were comparatively few of them, they did not call attention to themselves, and therefore most people are hardly aware of their existence. This book attempts to restore them to their proper place in the American heritage. Also, this book should be useful to scholars as a summary of what is now known about the Hudson Valley Dutch, as the first coherent account of the development of their way of life over the three and a half centuries from their first settlements to the present, and for its suggestion of numerous topics on which further research is needed.
