Preventing Substance Use Problems Among Young People
註釋This compendium presents evidence-based direction to effective programming for a broad range of substance abuse prevention activities. It gives attention to prevention issues, principles, and programs pertaining to all youth, and considers a variety of settings from schools to street level. After an introduction, section 2 reviews current drug use patterns of Canadian youth. Section 3 sets out the principles of youth substance use problem prevention in four categories: build a strong framework, strive for accountability, understand & involve young people, and create an effective process. Section 4 reviews exemplary prevention programs from the scientific literature and the final section reviews exemplary Canadian programs. The appendix includes a checklist of prevention principles, a bibliography of reviews of youth substance use problem prevention effectiveness & of articles associated with published programs, and an index of Canadian programs.
