註釋This is a handbook written by archivists for archivists in training and other persons interested in using German archives. Beginners are directed to a list of paleographic literature, p. 271. The introduction includes a helpful overview of the developments of the “Latin” and “German” script from 700 B.C. to 1941 with examples (pp. 20 - 25), whereby it is revealed that they are but variations of one script. The second section instructs the student in how a transcription is to be done, closing with a list of the texts which then, with their transcriptions, make up the remainder of the book (pp 58 - 59). Most of the texts are correspondence, for example, Text 3 is from Martin Luther to the Electoral Prince of Sachsen in 1532. One baptismal text from 1556 is included, Text 4.
