From the Editor

Make the vegetables delicious with imagination!

When it comes to vegetables, the first thing that comes to mind for many parents is probably how picky their children can be. Compared to other food, vegetables are more likely to be undesired at the table, usual winners include leafy greens and those that are particular in taste and texture such as green pepper, bitter gourd, and eggplant.

In fact, the first challenge that we envisioned when planning this series of picture books on vegetables and fruits was how to undo the stereotype of children thinking that vegetables are "not delicious"? To promote vegetarian cuisine to children, they need to at least be willing to eat vegetables and like vegetables!

After some rather heated debates (among similarly picky adults), we came up with a dozen or so vegetables that most people hate, and hence the first theme of this vegetable and fruit collection "No! This is too good!"

However, we do not want to preach to children how nutritious vegetables are and how much good vegetables will do to their bodies if they ate vegetables. We want to convey this idea in the most simple and straightforward way, which is through fun and innovative stories and pictures, and when they are exposed to vegetables, they will have a positive and beautiful connection. When they eat vegetables, they will remember the picture books they once read, and the vegetables that they didn't like will become fun and delicious all at once!

Starting with this idea, we sent out invites to many talented illustrators with a list of vegetables they can choose from, our only request is to include the phrase "No! This is too good!" Little did we anticipate such amazing turnouts. The first five stories published this time each have a different narrative, beautifully demonstrating the personal styles of the artists. During the process, we even came up with the idea to place characters and vegetables from other stores in different works, when reading the picture books with your children, you might also fancy a small easter egg hunt!

I sincerely hope that this diversified and entertaining collection will make children love the delicious and healthy vegetables and fruits when they read the stories in the picture books.

From the Author

Eggplant is probably one of the most unliked vegetable! Some people don't like its purple color, others don't like its soft and mushy texture, and some more probably never had delicious eggplants growing up so they didn't like it. I actually quite like eggplants. Maybe it's because I grew up hearing my mom say that "eating eggplants will make you age slower," and I believed her like the fool I was, and maybe it's also because I've only ever tasted delicious eggplants before. In the summer, eggplant salad can be very refreshing, whereas, in the winter, braised eggplant can be the best match for rice, so I have always loved this vegetable.
Therefore, I thought long and hard about how to make people enjoy eggplant as well. How about turning it so small that you can't tell what it is but it's there anyway? So I put it in the frittata, a delicious and colorful dish.
This is my first attempt at writing a story in the form of poetry, and I hope that you will hate that thingy less after you have read this book.
