註釋Paintings on wooden supports have posed continuous problems for conservators of works of art. To a large extent, this is attributable to the fact that wood is a material which responds dimensionally to changes in the relative humidity. While the craftsman's selection of the most desirable cut of wood can reduce the degree of the responses, it cannot eliminate them. Also, contrary to the belief of many, the dimensional activity of wood does not diminish with age.
