The Social Foundations of Emotion

Chapter one provides a review of the traditional and contemporary literature on emotions. Chapter two discusses emotions within the life-course perspective and highlights how emotions and self-development are intertwined and are affected heavily by social interactions at birth. Chapter seven examines the social regulation of emotions, and the role of social institutions, such as the legal system and religious organizations, and their influence on emotion regulation.
