Zagłada Żydów w obozie koncentracyjnym na Majdanku
註釋Majdanek, which was in operation from October 1941 to July 1944, was a multi-purpose Nazi camp; it served as a reservoir of workers for forced labor, as a labor camp, and as a place for looting the prisoners' property. For numerous Jews who were deported to Majdanek en masse from March 1942 on, it was also the place of their killing. Ca. 74,000 Jews were deported to Majdanek; 60,000 of them perished there. Most of them died due to harsh living conditions, hard work, and hunger, while some were killed in the two gas chambers constructed in mid-1942. Ca. 30% of Majdanek's Jewish victims were shot in the "Erntefest" action on 3-4 November 1943, when a total of 42,000 Jews were killed by the Nazis in the camps of the Lublin district. Examines possible reasons why the Nazis initiated this operation; most probably it occurred due to a dispute between the SS and other Nazi authorities on the use of the Jewish work force in the Lublin district. The final 40 pages include facsimiles of documents and photographs.
