註釋Grexit (2012) is the culmination of a two year long research project on the cultural significance of the iconography of the Drachma, in the context of the unfolding financial crisis in the Eurozone (2008 - ?). The publication consists of four independent articles and a short chronology of the Greek Crisis comprised of media reports. The idea behind the publication was to bring together these distinct, but also complementary, arguments about the construction and the operation of the Greek banknotes, in an attempt to indicate, but also to deconstruct the relationship between the iconography of money and the apparatuses that produce it. Such an exercise is highly speculative, but it is also a good illustration not only of the cultural significance of currency but also of of the theoretical presuppositions and the cultural stereotypes that inform the monetary union in Europe.
