Operations Designing and Producing Quality Products and Services
註釋Bharti's case is an example of making production and operational activities of the company a winning strategy. Though Bharti is in the telecom service sector, the same is true in the case of the manufacturing sector. In the manufacturing sector also, a company can manage and control its production and operation in such a manner that it accomplishes competitive advantages. For instance, Tata Steel undertook modernization of its steel plants in India in different phases and became the world's most cost competitive steel producer. After acquiring 'Corus Steel', the company decided to expand and further improve the quality of its products. The company has planned to invest $185 million (` 1355 cr.) in the No. 4 blast furnace at Port Talbot steelworks in Wales, which will increase its capacity by 4,00,000 tonnes a year. This investment will result in the Port Talbot steelworks becoming an internationally competitive cost base and a producer of high-quality strip products on a global scale.
