Three brief manuscript items relating to cocoa production in Cuba. Two written or signed by Carlos de Vargas Machuca y Cervetto, governor of the Departamento Oriental of Cuba, a predecesor of present-day Oriente Province, on November 12, 1857 and August 7-8, 1858, respectively. The third document, written on May 23, 1860, is by Francisco de la Paz of the ministry of public works in Havana, which explains measures undertaken by the government in response to the earlier reports by Vargas.
