The Future of Energy in China
註釋Abstract: "Energy, as one of the most important aspects of modern lifestyles, is at the root of these issues. And for so long as limited fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas are our main energy sources, resource scarcity and global warming will remain dangerous problems. The transition to clean and renewable energies will be the most important issue in addressing these problems. China may not be the only actor in this plot; but it is an important one, perhaps the most important one. Certainly, it is the actor that could push the planet as a whole over the tipping point of resource consumption, which would in turn lead to economic and political crisis and, perhaps, a great and fatal clash of civilizations. And as both an emerging great power and a country in the process of development, China makes for a fascinating case-study; it is the perfect subject for an examination of the relation between economic development and environmental sustainability. This essay will focus on the future of energy, examining the problems with current energy forecasts and showing that renewable energy should already be a viable option in many cases; the latter part of this essay will illuminate the potential of solar energy in particular, arguing that solar power will be at the forefront of a paradigm shift away from conventional energy and that this shift will occur in China more quickly than is commonly believed."
