註釋At a time when the nation is being rocked by the widespread college entrance scandal involving wealthy, well-known parents paying to get their children accepted into colleges and universities, Michael Love devises a plan to do it the old fashion way - through hard work and tenacity. Despite being told he did not qualify for many schools or simply did not have the grades or standardized test scores, Love defies the odds by getting accepted to 45 colleges and acquiring $623,419.00 in scholarship money. Love's story is all too common among young people today - many of whom when told they are not good enough or do not quality simply give up. But Love would not allow others to determine his fate and by taking control of his own future proved the aphorism, "mind over matter" should be taken literally. Love states, "I learned how to perform under pressure and keep going whether I was tired or in pain. The mind really does control matter."Like many children born in inner cities of the United States, Love did not have it easy. LEAP is a motivational book about Love's journey in life and how he overcame obstacles such as being incorrectly labeled learning disabled, being bullied, living in fear and poverty in a crime ridden area and bouts with peer pressure and simply being accepted by his peers. However, Love transforms what some may consider disadvantages into advantages, maneuvering his way through his young life masterfully. In LEAP, Love shares his story of survival and methods for getting accepted into college and receiving scholarship money when the odds were stacked against him. Love demonstrates how using a few techniques, which are used as chapter titles, paved the way for him to get into college. Love used techniques like not allowing labels to limit you, understanding the advantages of adversity, knowing how to overcome obstacles, committing to your goals and putting forth the extra effort can catapult you into your dreams. Love states, "It's not how you start out that matters much, but the way you finish is what counts the most."LEAP concludes with Love finally reaching his goals and revealing not only where he will attend college, but who he has become as a result of his struggles and understanding the importance of a goal. Love eloquently states, "My goal was a promise to myself. If I am not true to me or seek the best for me, I will not be true to or wish for the best in others."
