Rapid solidification technology (RST) is evolving quickly on aworldwide basis and is likely to lead to a number of significantcommercial developments. A survey of Canadian activities in RSTreveals that there has been little development of this technologyin Canada. Althoiugh metallic glasses and processing techniquesare being studied at a number of universities, and severalcompanies and not-for-profit institutions are undertakingexploratory projects, only one Canadian company maintains anactive program of alloy and process development in RST. Means ofpromoting the development of RST in Canada are suggested.
