After an outrageous series of events, where amongst other things Jennifer discovers she may have been the cause of her psychotic neighbour blowing herself up, Jennifer has a sudden change of heart. Needing a place to stay she claims the mother she walked out on over twenty years ago and after a less than enthusiastic reunion, Jennifer and Lizzie try to settle into Gypsy's village. Finding it far from normal they call it after the affectionate name given to a WW1 mental hospital - Dottyville. If sunbeam diets, breast feeding teabags and winter solstice sacrifices weren't enough to scar a regular person, Jennifer also finds herself placating confused teenage daughter, Lizzie, who swings between feelings of awe and fright for her new life; reunites with first love, Oscar; and battles her own antagonistic feelings towards her mother. Yet is Jennifer's attitude towards Gypsy really a punishment for the unorthodox childhood she was made to live, and ultimately ran away from as a teenager? Or is it hiding a deeper hurt and a darker secret which goes all the way back to that day in summer when she disappeared?
