註釋The Two Protectors, published in 1899, is the standard work on the careers of the great Protector and his son and successor, Richard Cromwell. This work unites the fire of personal enthusiasm with the scientific precision of the historian. Sir Richard Tangye (born in 1833) was an engineer, a Justice of the Peace for Birmingham and for Warwickshire and Cornwall, a Member of the Imperial Institute, a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, and Chairman of Tangyes Limited, a Birmingham engineering firm. He was also the author of One and All, Reminiscences of Travel in America, Australia and Egypt. His magnum opus, however, has been this book.
