Petr Herel had previously produced a book containing translations by James Grieve of a small selection of the Poèmes quotidiens (1919) of Pierre Albert-Birot (1876-1967), made with Phil Day and Ingeborg Hansen in 1999. This book has a further selection of the poems with twelve small square coloured etchings (including one on the cover) printed from seven plates, in a more conventional format compared to the full page bleed prints of the earlier book. The genesis of this book was that James Grieve enjoyed making the additional translations, and then Petr Herel enjoyed using them to make yet another beautiful artist's book. Both books must have been very difficult to make, but are high points of Herel's art.
