Ich lasse sie deshalb hier folgen: ERNST CARL ABBE wurde am 23. Januar 1840 als Sohn des Spinnmeisters einer Fabrik in Eisenach geboren und besuchte bis zu seinem 10. Lebensjahre die dortige erste Bürgerschule. Deren Lehrer, denen die ungewöhnliche Begabung des Knaben auffiel, bewogen den Vater, ihn auf das Realgymnasium (damals Realschule I. Ordnung) zu geben, wo er im Jahre 1857 das Abiturientenexamen mit besonderer Auszeichnung bestand. Von Ostern 1857 bis ebendahin 1859 studierte ERNST ABBE Mathematik, Physik, Astronomie und Philosophie an der Universität Jena, wo er sich besonders an K. SNELL anschloß, von 1859-1861 in Göttingen, wo neben dem berühmten Physiker W. WEBER der große Mathematiker B.
