Environment and Sustainable Development Indicators for Canada
註釋This report presents the conclusions & recommendations of the Environmental & Sustainable Development Indicators (ESDI) Initiative, an effort to track at the national level the impact of current economic practices on the natural & human assets that will be needed by future generations of Canadians. The Initiative developed a small set of easily understood indicators of the national environment & sustainable development, using the input of a broad range of stakeholders & experts. After an introduction on the ESDI Initiative, sections 2 & 3 describe the context for the recommendations, including the reasons why Canada needs an expanded information base to supplement economic indicators such as gross domestic product and a description of the capital model on which the recommendations are based. Sections 4 & 5 describe the indicators and the information-based recommendations respectively. Section 6 reviews the important issues that are still under debate related to environment & sustainable development indicators. The final section concludes with an outline of the recommended next steps.
