註釋The diary of a Jew, written while she was hiding from the Nazis in 1944. Ruth Leimenzon was born in Vilna in 1915. She married in 1937. Her husband was arrested in 1941, shortly after the Nazi occupation; she never saw him again. The author was interned in the Vilna ghetto and escaped in August 1943, when the ghetto was liquidated. She was hidden by a Polish farmer in his barn, where she wrote the diary and where she remained until the liberation in July 1944. The only survivor of her family, Leimenzon-Engelshtern remarried and emigrated with her husband and son to the U.S. in 1949; she died in 1955.
