You Just Never Know
註釋China reopened to the outside in the l970s after decades of revolutionary upheavals, and my absence had lasted 26 years; I naturally expected to find changes, just as Rip Van Winkle discovered in post-revolutionary America. Most of the stories here have roots in my own experiences both before and after the reopening. The others have been gleaned from the input of diverse people who'd survived a tumultuous era. My autobiographic sketches and my exploitation of the contributions of others encapsulate the country's perplexing and, at times, hilarious modus operandi. You just never know what you will find in You Just Never Know.
