註釋They Were Counted ..., was repressed under the Communists and has only recently been republished to acclaim in his native country. This novel, the first part of Banffy's Transylvanian Trilogy, provides a wide-ranging portrait of his homeland in the early twentieth century as seen through the eves of two young aristocratic Transylvanian cousins. Against a backdrop of grand shooting parties, turbulent scenes in parliament, and the luxury of life where good manners cloak indifference and brutality, is set the plight of exploited Romanian peasants.
