This paper briefly states first the need for further studies on genetic variation in goats and conservation of brees of goats that are either rare or in the immediate danger of extinction. Subsequently, problems, current status and future perspectives in relation to breeding objectives, genetic estimes, crossbreeding parameters, selection, breeding value estimation and biotechnological possibilities were described.
