註釋This teacher's manual and student activity book, recommended for use in grades 3 and 4, is designed to teach the basic economic principles, skills, and attitudes all children must learn in order to understand the economic system in which they participate. Lessons and supporting materials have been related to a child's everyday experience, and practical examples of how our economic system operates are provided. Also, pathways for the instruction of other important subjects and skills, including mathematics, language arts, group participation, researching skills, art, social studies, and music are incorporated. The teacher resource manual contains: (1) an overview of The Community Publishing Company; (2) thirty-three detailed and sequentially arranged lessons; (3) a glossary of economic terms; and (4) sample articles and informational items for use with the media. The activity book is designed to help students plan, analyze, organize, and record their experiences in The Community Publishing Company. Economics concepts focused on in the lessons include: (1) scarcity; (2) opportunity cost and trade-offs; (3) productivity; (4) economic institutions and incentives; (5) exchange, money, and interdependence; (6) markets and prices; and (7) supply and demand.
