註釋The fourth of five volumes reporting on the Proyecto Arqueológico Valle de la Plata's long-term archaeological investigation of the development of chiefdoms in Colombia's Alto Magdalena, home to the San Agustín culture. This volume reports on household archaeology of the Formative period. The particular emphasis is on the possibility of economic specialization in the form of "micro-verticality." Appealing as the potential for such an economic system may be, this study concludes that the archaeological evidence does not support such a reconstruction.
